| Avoid Split-Tunnel Connections |
|
| When network traffic is allowed to flow over both VPN and local connections, the term split tunnel is often used to describe that connection. This method of VPN connection is discouraged because outside forces may penetrate a protected network via the client system when traffic to other networks is allowed and a system is connected to the VPN. Enabling all traffic over the VPN also presents potential liability issues to the VPN host network responsible for Internet usage policies, and may increase Internet and network bandwidth requirements due to added traffic from VPN clients.
